Study of single perfobond rib with head stud shear connectors for a composite structure

Abstract: The head stud connector and the perfobond rib connector are the most common forms of ductile and rigid shear connector, respectively, but have strengths and weaknesses. This study evaluates the behaviour of a single perfobond rib with head stud shear connector that combines the advantages of both. First, a shear resistance equation is proposed to predict the strength of the single perfobond rib with head stud shear connector based on equations for the head stud connector and the single perfobond rib shear conn… Show more

“…Zhang [7] added two rows of studs to both sides of the perforated steel plate to improve the shear bearing capacity; this connector, which was composed of the perforated plate and the studs, was used in the Nakano Viaduct Project in Japan. For this method, push-out tests and finite element simulation analysis were performed by Deng [8] and Zheng [9]. Their study verified the superior shear resistance of the perforated plate + stud shear connector.…”

“…The advantages of headed stud shear and PBL connectors together have enabled researchers to improve the shear behaviour of composite structures. Deng et al [56] developed and tested a combination of headed shear connectors with a single perfobond rib (Fig. 14) by using ten push-out test specimens for evaluating the fracture mode, shear capacity, load-slip behaviour, and ductility.…”

“…Sun et al [4] experimentally investigated the performance of a headed stud welded to a composite deck for the effect of decking type, presence, and direction of rib on shear capacity. Deng et al [5] combined headed studs and perfobond ribs to enhance composite structure shear behavior. Konrad and Kuhlmann [6] investigated the bearing resistance of headed studs used in trapezoidal steel sheeting to determine the effect of the stud's location in the trough and other geometric factors on the failure mode.…”
