Study of spray impingement and a squish combustion system for diesel engines

Abstract: In order to improve fuel/air mixture homogeneity and enhance air motion in the combustion chamber, a new spray impingement and squish combustion system (SISCS) is developed. The mixture formation and combustion processes in three different combustion chambers are simulated using the AVL-FIRE code. Simulation results show that the passage width has great influence on combustion and emissions. Compared with the original engine the NO and soot emissions can be reduced by using the combustion chamber of the case B. Show more
