Study of the Effect of Three Extraction Processes on the Phytoactives of Alchornea cordifolia (Schumach. & Thonn.) Müll. Arg. (Euphorbiaceae) and Evaluation of their Antioxidant and Analgesic Activities

Abstract: Aims: An important aspect of the valorization of plants of interest is the search for phytoactives. This work aims to show the effect of extractive processes (maceration, decoction, Soxhlet extraction) both on the phytoconstituents of a plant species and on their intrinsic properties. Methodology: Alchornea cordifolia, a botanical species growing in Côte d'Ivoire, was chosen for this purpose. Phytophenols, flavonoids and condensed tannins were quantified by spectrophotometry. Antioxidant (DPPH and FRAP) … Show more

“…Furthermore, in this age of advances in organic chemistry, it is clear that more than 25% of medicines prescribed in industrialised countries derive their active ingredients directly or indirectly from plants [2]. These therapeutic effects are due to the bioactive compounds present in plants, such as polyphenols, flavonoids and tannins [1,2,3]. These are natural antioxidants that are attracting increasing interest for their potential use in the prevention and treatment of inflammatory and metabolic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and obesity.…”
