Study of the efficiency of sweet potato growing in the Forest-Steppe of Ukraine by different methods of soil mulching

Abstract: Sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) is a new crop for soil and climatic conditions of Ukraine, the active implementation of which is hindered by the lack of recommendations on technological aspects of cultivation. One of the important technological measures for growing sweet potatoes is the use of soil mulching, which improves the water regime and regulates the thermal regime of the soil; prevention of weed growth and growth of sweet potato shoots to the soil. Thus, the aim of the research is to determine the ef… Show more

“…Treatment methods had a different effect on crop weed infestation. This is confirmed by Bielashov et al (2022) and Kuts et al (2021). For example, in the tillering phase of barley during ploughing, the number of weeds was 9.8 pcs•m -2 when the N 30 P 30 K 30 fertilizer was applied and 11.1 pcs•m -2 when the N 60 P 30 K 30 fertilizer was applied.…”

“…Therefore, during the optimal sowing time for soybeans with a soil temperature regime of 12-14 o С at a depth of 10 cm, with traditional methods of basic cultivation, it is not always possible to maintain the necessary moisture reserves in the seed layer. The agrotechnical methods developed and improved by us significantly reduce energy costs, increase the accumulation and rational use of moisture [1,2], create favorable conditions for the growth and development of soybean plants [3,4].…”
