“…The first route involves the production of the long-lived parent 44 Ti at an intermediate energy accelerator. The cross sections of the 45 Sc(p,2n) 44 Ti nuclear reaction have been well investigated [18,19] and the energy range Ep= 35 → 15 MeV appears to be very suitable for production purposes. The calculated thick target yield of 44 Ti over this energy range amounts to ~ 4 kBq A -1 h -1 (for 1 h irradiation).…”

“…Nonetheless, from the scientific and application point of view (see below), it appears worthwhile to develop it further. The suggested production reaction is 45 Sc( p, 2n) 44 Ti and the excitation function, recently measured [141], is reproduced in Fig. 8.…”

“…Nonetheless two generator systems for obtaining the daughter 72 As, one based on distillation [137] and the other one on solid phase extraction [138] have been developed. With regard to 140 Nd, the ( p, 2n) and ( 3 He, xn) reactions on 141 Pr and nat Ce, respectively, have been investigated in detail [cf . 139].…”

“…In our experiments natural scandium was irradiated with 12-10 MeV protons for several reasons: -The energy is below the threshold of 12.7 MeV of the 45 Sc( , 2 ) 44 Ti nuclear reaction [30], which would lead to a radioisotopic impurity that could not be separated chemically and would interfere with the X-ray measurement and the -coincidence counting (see Table 1). Concerning the measurements, it was important to employ the right amount of radioactivity suiting the requirements of all used counting techniques.…”
