Study of the LLE, VLE, and VLLE of the Ternary System Water + 1-Butanol + Isoamyl Alcohol at 101.3 kPa

Abstract: In this work it has been determined experimentally the liquid-liquid equilibrium of the water + 1-butanol + isoamyl alcohol system at 303.15K and 313.15K. The UNIQUAC, NRTL and UNIFAC models have been employed to correlate and predict LLE and compare them with the experimental data. Additionally, the vapor-liquid and vaporliquid-liquid equilibria of this system have also been determined using a modified Fischer labodest still. The data obtained have been used to correlate and obtain the binary interaction para… Show more

“…The samples were analyzed with the internal standard method , by a gas chromatograph (6890N, Agilent Technologies Inc.) equipped with a hydrogen flame ion detector (FID) and an Agilent DB1701 capillary column(30 m × 32 μm × 0.25 μm). N -amyl alcohol was used as an internal standard substance.…”

“…A capillary column (Agilent DB-1701, 30 m × 32 μm × 0.25 μm) was used. The carrier gas was high-purity nitrogen, and the internal standard substance 21 was N-amyl alcohol. The temperature of the injector and detector was set at 523.15 K. The column temperature was set through temperature programming.…”

“…However, given the partial miscibility of the studied system, once the vapor is condensed, it splits into two liquid phases. Accordingly, aiming to obtain a representative sample of the mixture, a sample of vapor phase was taken in the vapor form as reported by Saquete et al 21 Nevertheless, in this work, the vapor sample was taken by means of a gas syringe (port 2 in Figure 2). Then, the sample was cooled to 2 °C for 10 min and prepared for gas chromatographic analysis following the procedure described in Section 2.2.1.…”
