Study of the mechanisms of streamline-adjustment-assisted heterogeneous combination flooding for enhanced oil recovery for post-polymer-flooded reservoirs

Abstract: Streamline-adjustment-assisted heterogeneous combination flooding is a new technology for enhanced oil recovery for postpolymer-flooded reservoirs. In this work, we first carried out a series of 2D visualization experiments for different chemical flooding scenarios after polymer flooding. Then, we explored the synergistic mechanisms of streamline-adjustment-assisted heterogeneous combination flooding for enhanced oil recovery and the contribution of each component. Test results show that for single heterogeneo… Show more

“…After water flooding, the oil saturation in the original unswept area was still high, and the displacement efficiency was low [36]. According to previous experiments [39], the HPC system effectively blocked the dominant channels, expanding the water flooding range, and the well pattern densification and adjustment expanded the scope of the HPC system, which played a guiding role in the HPC system. In order to study the influence of the HPC system under different well patterns, five WAHPCF schemes were designed on the basis of well pattern densification and adjustment.…”

“…flooding [39,40]. This method adjusts the well pattern after polymer flooding to produce crude oil in the unswept areas and increase the action range of the HPC system, thereby significantly expanding the swept area and enhancing oil recovery.…”

“…For strongly heterogeneous reservoirs, however, the resistance increase performance of polymer solution in the thief zones via adsorption and viscosity increase is not satisfactory, and fluid fingering or channeling may occur. , In addition, due to the polymer’s shearing, dilution, and degradation in the formation, its viscosity will decrease. , For these reasons, it is difficult to further increase the swept volume and extract extra oil in the low-permeability zones that need to be developed urgently. Therefore, there is a need for chemical agents with more excellent conformance control performance. …”
