The traditional cone penetration test system uses cable to transmit data; as the probe goes deeper into the ground, the length of the cable will become longer. This makes the installation of the test equipment more complicated, and excessively long cables cause signal distortion and seriously affect data accuracy. To simplify the experimental equipment and improve the accuracy of data acquisition, a cableless cone penetration test system is proposed. The improved system uses an SD card to store the experimental data, as opposed to using cables for communication which, often lead to the distortion of signals caused by long-distance communication and data loss caused by accidental cable breaks. Therefore, the accuracy of the collected data is higher, and the experimental device is simplified. To evaluate the applicability and efficiency of our design, we have carried out exploration experiments with the sensor system proposed in this paper. The test results show that the experimental data collected by the new system are basically consistent with the data collected by traditional cable CPT equipment, and the accuracy of the collected data is higher. It is more reliable and accurate to analyze the comprehensive mechanical properties of the soil layers with the data collected by the new system.

This work proposes a molybdenum (Mo) based pressure sensor capable of operating at temperatures higher than 300 ℃. The sensor utilizes a 30 μm thick rectangular pressure-sensitive film and 2 μm thick gate Mo resistors to form a Wheatstone bridge structure to enhance pressure sensing. Finite element analysis (FEA) has been performed to design the sensor and analyze the pressure and temperature effect. The developed sensor with the excitation of 1 V voltage exhibits excellent performance characteristics at room temperature (25 ℃), including a sensitivity of 0.05689 mV/V/kPa, 0.15 % Full Scale (FS) accuracy, a nonlinearity of 0.79 % FS, and 0.02 % FS repeatability. The thermal zero shift of -0.13 % FS/℃ is obtained in the 25 ℃ to 300 ℃ temperature range. The simulation findings illustrate that the thermal mismatch weakens the thermal zero shift by +0.012 ‰ FS/℃, while the deviation of the temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) and initial resistivity (ρ_(T_0 )) aggravate the thermal zero shift by -0.139 % FS/℃. Among both, the deviation of ρ_(T_0 ) and TCR is the major contributor to thermal zero shift. Moreover, it was found that the Seebeck effect caused by the on-chip temperature gradient also affects the accuracy of the sensor. A temperature difference of 5.4 ℃ produces a thermoelectric potential of 37.95 μV equivalent to a pressure of 670 Pa loading on the chip. Besides, the response characteristics of the sensor at different temperature rates were investigated.

As light and efficient large-span space structures, beam string structures have been widely used since the 1980s. Within them, cables are the main force-bearing component; their level of tension determines the overall stiffness, performance and structural safety of the beam string structures. Real-time monitoring of the cable force during the construction and service periods is an important and effective measure to ensure the safety of the cable structure. At present, the vibration method is widely used in nearly all common engineering practices for cable force identification/monitoring because of its simplicity and efficiency. However, the vibration of the cable segment will be affected by the whole structure, so the cable force-frequency relationship based on the simple single cable model cannot meet the accuracy requirement of cable force identification of the beam string structure. Therefore, in this paper, through finite element simulation and theoretical analysis, a three-stage criterion is proposed to develop a new method for obtaining the local modal information of the tensioned cable segment where the influence of the overall structure is considered. The new method’s performance was compared with the results obtained by the vibration method according to the single-cable model assumption, and the design values of the cable forces. The magnitude of the error in the identification of the tension force of the beam string structure according to the single-cable model was studied to provide a correction method, so that the single-cable model assumption can be used to improve the measuring efficiency and ensure the solution accuracy. The numerical results show the effectiveness of the proposed method. The work of this paper provides a new approach for improving the identification accuracy of the vibration method of a complex cable system such as the beam string structure and is a useful discussion on the vibration method of complex cable systems.
