Study of vehicle crashes into a rigid barrier

Abstract: This study presents the results of both a computer simulation of a vehicle crash into a rigid barrier obtained with V-SIM4 software and an experimental crash test published by ADAC (Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club). The results were obtained using the same initial conditions, which provides an opportunity to compare results and evaluate the reliability of simulation results. Observed errors and adopted models are discussed. The sensitivity of the post-impact motion to the overlap and engaged gear was stud… Show more

“…Moreover, the position of wheels can be changed during a collision or they can even be detached from the surface. However, in modelling, there can occur simplifications that should be taken into consideration by experts who perform simulations as shown in the works [26,27]. Otherwise, the results obtained from a simulation performed on the basis of default data proposed by the program may be incorrect and the outcome of a claim verification by the SDC method will be incorrect.…”

“…Mitigating injuries resulting from these accidents hinges on both legislative measures and public safety awareness. Additionally, advancements in active and passive safety technologies play a crucial role in this regard [1]. Unlike active safety technologies, passive safety technologies are adept at minimizing personal injuries during accidents [2].…”

“…An expert is required to change many parameters and needs to be familiar with the software and the models to be used. In works (Kostek et al, 2017;Kostek et al, 2019) the authors present both the results of computer simulations of a car crash with a rigid obstacle obtained with a simulation program as well as the experimental results. The results were obtained for the same initial conditions, which enabled assessment of the computer simulation reliability and identification of selected parameters.…”
