Study of ψ(2S) production and cold nuclear matter effects in pPb collisions at s N N = 5 $$ \sqrt{s_{N\;N}}=5 $$ TeV

Abstract: The production of ψ(2S) mesons is studied in dimuon final states using protonlead (pPb) collision data collected by the LHCb detector. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 1.6 nb −1 . The nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of the pPb collisions is √ s N N = 5 TeV. The measurement is performed using ψ(2S) mesons with transverse momentum less than 14 GeV/c and rapidity y in the ranges 1.5 < y < 4.0 and −5.0 < y < −2.5 in the nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass system. The forward-backward pro… Show more

“…The very same fits are however consistent with the ATLAS data in the same P T regime, which possibly indicates an underestimation of the systematical experimental uncertainties in that regime. In the following, we show comparisons with all the existing data.…”

“…Interestingly, the ψ(2S) is stronger suppressed than the J/ψ in p-A collisions at the LHC [43,44]. This behaviour lacks an explanation within the nuclear parton distribution framework and the coherent energy loss model.…”

“…The LHCb detector took data for the first time in 2013 in p-Pb collisions and contributed already significantly to the measurement of non-deconfinement effects in nuclear collisions in the quarkonium sector [32,36,44]. The detector is fast, features a HLT with an input rate of 1 MHz in pp collisions and a large event rate storage capability of about 10 kHz.…”
