Study on Application of Nanosilica in Paper Coating

Abstract: The application of nanosilica in coating of art paper and ink-jet paper is studied. The results show that when nanosilica is used in art paper coating, the dispersity and flowability of the art paper coating are excellent. The surface strength, smoothness and gloss of the paper coated with art paper coating with nanosilica are improved and its yellowing rate is decreased. When nanosilica is used in ink-jet paper coating, the dispersity of prepared ink-jet paper coating is of better, the coated paperboard with … Show more

“…Results shown in Table 2 indicate that the smoothness of the coated paper was best when the dosage ratio of chitosan to acetic acid was 1:0.5. A relatively high pH value could reduce the degradation of chitosan (Liu and Chen 2011). With increasing dosage of acetic acid, fibers on the surface of the paper would undergo a quicker degradation process, which led to the destruction of the original fiber morphology of the uncoated paper, thus causing the film formation of chitosan to be worse and affecting the smoothness of the coated paper.…”

“…CTS coating on food packaging paper provides an oxygen barrier (Kjellgren et al 2006;Khwaldia et al 2010;Liu and Chen 2011), a moisture barrier (Reis et al 2011;Zhang et al 2014), an antibacterial barrier (Dutta et al 2009;Sun et al 2010), and shows other special packaging performances. It can also significantly increase the mechanical strength of the paper sheet (Laleg and Pikulik 1991).…”
