Study on Degradation of Benzothiazolium-Based Ionic Liquids by UV-H2O2

Abstract: Ionic liquids (ILs) are considered to be a new type of solvent due to their low vapor pressure, some unique properties and are expected to be used widely in the following days. Given their water solubility, stable chemical structure, and biological toxicity, ILs probably reach aquatic environments and become long-term pollutants. We studied the fate of benzothiazolium-based ionic liquids catalyzed by UV-H2O2 in water. Due to the synergistic effect of UV and H2O2, the degradation efficiency can be significantly… Show more

“…However, with the temperature further increasing to 35 1C, the reaction rate decreased, probably due to the decomposition of H 2 O 2 at a high temperature. 45 In addition, HA widely existed in natural water, which affected the oxidative degradation reaction in water. 46 HA promoted the photodegradation of TBBPA by WO 3 -2-AC600 (Fig.…”

“…However, the solvents composed of BF 4 – and PF 6 – are not eco-friendly due to the corrosion of halide ions (e.g., F – , Cl – ) to the apparatus . Moreover, BF 4 – and PF 6 – can be degraded by chemical oxidation with H 2 O 2 . Deep eutectic solvents (DES) exhibit similar properties with ILs containing large and asymmetric ionic species, but possess wider varieties of ionic species and low cost, easy preparation, and hypotoxicity. , In addition, polyethylene glycol dimethyl ether (NHD) is a commercial commonly used neutral solvent, which exhibits excellent solubility, nonflammability, and nontoxicity.…”

“…The organic extractants used in liquid-liquid extraction include ionic liquids, which have attracted further interest due to their inherent properties [13][14][15][16], including high selectivity and conductivity [17], negligible vapor pressure and low volatility [18], inflammability or low flammability [19], strong thermal stability [20], high refractive index [21], and solvation power of organic and inorganic compounds [22,23]. Due to these properties, these liquids are considered to be green solvents.…”
