Study on Environmental Factors of Fluorine in Chagan Lake Catchment, Northeast China

Abstract: The Chagan Lake Catchment is located in the midwest of Songnen Plain, which is a typical high fluoride groundwater area. High fluoride water has an important impact on the economic development and ecosystem stability of Chagan Lake. In this study, the spatial distribution characteristics and influencing factors of fluorine in Chagan Lake Catchment are discussed by using hydrochemistry and mathematical statistical analysis. The groundwater in the study area was characterized as Na+-rich and Ca2+-poor, with a hi… Show more

“…Some of the carried F and As enter inland lakes and reservoirs, but most accumulate in the soil. The average F content in the soil of the study area exceeded 400 mg/kg (Tang et al, 2021), and the As content ranges from 3.9 to 12.8 mg/kg (Bian et al, 2012). Through precipitation leaching and runoff erosion, F and As are released from the soil and loose sediments, entering surface water and shallow groundwater.…”

“…Understanding the characteristics and main driving forces of the landscape changes in Chagan Lake can help to carry out better protection and management of the lake, which has an important guiding role in improving the regional ecological environment and economic development. Our predecessors have conducted much research on the Chagan Lake area, but this has mostly focused on the water quality characteristics of Chagan Lake [29,30], water environment change [31,32], the groundwater environment [33,34], and pollutant distribution [35]; for example, Wang Fengyan [36] determined and compared the surface deformation of three typical land cover types in Chagan Lake, and analyzed the influencing factors of the lakeside areas. However, more of the driving factors for landscape change in the Chagan Lake Nature Reserve need to be studied.…”

“…On the other hand, uorosis occurs when the quantity of uoride in drinking water surpasses 1.5 mg/L (Youse et al, 2018;Rahman et al, 2020). When the uoride level in water is too high, it may interfere with aquatic plants' metabolic processes, stunt their development, and cause substantial physiological changes (Tang et al, 2021). Besides, uoride may impact the development of aquatic life, damaging their neurological systems and bones, causing irregular growth, and even harming their progeny (de Menezes et al, 2003;Zhang et al, 2020).…”

“…HRA employing a probabilistic tool based on Monte Carlo Simulation, can tackle this issue and generate more robust outcomes by decreasing the errors and uncertainties (Mukherjee and Singh, 2022). Several previous studies used the Monte Carlo simulation to assess the human health risks associated with uoride exposure in natural lakes (Tang et al, 2021;Tokatl, 2021). However, this approach has not been widely used in lentic environments.…”
