Study on the Influence Factors of Rod Plate Gap Corona Discharge Environment Based on UV Imaging

Abstract: To study the influence of environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, wind speed, and air pressure on the detection of corona discharge using ultraviolet imaging, the rod‐plate gap model was used, and the ultraviolet video signals of AC discharge under different environmental conditions were recorded by CoroCAM504 ultraviolet imager, and the environmental factors affecting UV discharge from electrical equipment were analyzed. The experimental results show that the area of the discharge spot increases … Show more

“…When corona discharge and other discharge phenomena occur, energy release phenomena (i.e. the combination of electrons and positive ions to produce photons) take place, generating ultraviolet light [13]. The Luminar UV imager captures these UV signals, allowing for a preliminary assessment of the discharge strength [14].…”

“…The detection of corona-related defects in transmission lines has been included in the scope of defect detection work for transmission lines. In recent years, ultraviolet (UV) detection technology has been widely applied for the accurate, fast, visual, and safe detection of corona discharges in electrical equipment [4][5][6][7][8][9]. Some relevant studies [10][11][12][13] have been conducted on the corona inception voltage of conductors using ultraviolet detection technology.…”

“…In terms of temperature and humidity research, these are representative: Dhali and Williams simulated the development process of nitrogen-positive flow in parallel plates [14]; Vitello simulated the development process of the negative flow of nitrogen in parallel plates [15]; Morrow and lowke simulated the development process of positive streamers in air [16]. For a uniform or slightly non-uniform field, air humidity has little effect on gap breakdown voltage [17]; for an extremely uneven field, most scholars believe that, under the influence of the electronegativity of water, the breakdown voltage increases slightly with the increase of humidity [18,19]. However, this is not entirely the case.…”
