Community sports are instrumental in strengthening communities because sports are recognized as a valuable tool in fostering developmental experiences with other positive effects to communities. The study investigated the development of community sports as a means for physical education (PE) teachers in China to serve their community. This study was significant in bridging the missing research evidence on the effectivity of community sports and in supporting China’s sports development mission. Using descriptive-comparative-correlational approach, the study surveyed 308 PE general teachers who were mostly female aged 24 years old with 3 years teaching experience. Based on the results, the PE teachers slightly consider involvement in public service in terms of community recreation which indicated that watching local sports leagues can be an opportunity for them not only to share their knowledge in local sports, but also to lead the community members to be involve in local sports for physical and mental health. This study concluded that the PE teachers recognized community sports as satisfactory in providing the recreational development through the helpfulness of sports/pool attendants, community; community development through involvement of residents and members of the community regardless of age, status, and gender, consisting of team games engaging to the sporting participants and the public, consisting of soft motor activities that strengthen the bonds between members and promoting volunteerism among members; educational development through underlining the fact of sports in encouraging wellbeing through free seminars; and health development through assessing the physical health of the players joining the sports community program. Thus, a basis or guideline for community-based sports was suggested, which can be developed and implemented to promote and enhance the level of involvement in the community among PE teachers as the output of the study.

The expansion of China's development zones has made great contributions to economic development, as well as provided practical guidance for other developing countries to implement development zone policies. However, in the context of global advocacy of low carbon, literature about how the development zone policy affect carbon emissions is poor, especially in China at the urban level. Therefore, this study takes China's development zone policy as a quasi-natural experiment, using the panel data of 285 cities in China from 2003 to 2020, and adopting the DID model to analyze its impact on carbon emissions. After a series of robustness tests including placebo test, dynamic test (all independent variables are lagged by one period), endogeneity test, and parallel trend test, the results are basically robust. The findings show that the development zone policy indeed significantly reduces carbon emissions. In addition, we find that cities with higher resource endowments, cities in the eastern and central regions, and other larger cities across the country have better carbon emissions reduction effects. To a certain extent, the research in this paper fills the gap of theoretical research on carbon emissions in terms of the development zone policy, and provides some practical basis for future research in the field of carbon emissions.

Background At a time when life is starting to return to normal following the global pandemic, the medical service function as a key component of public infrastructure in livable communities still have an undeniable importance. In practice, however, due to a heterogeneity in the distribution of medical facilities, a significant spatial imbalance can exist in urban and country regions. By integrating the life circle theory and complex system theory, we try to propose a new framework to fill this gap and explain the formation mechanism of the medical service function equality. Furthermore, the feasibility of the framework was verified by evaluating the spatial equality of medical services of the primary, secondary, tertiary and total medical service function in Chengdu City, China. Methods Based on Z-score method, a quantitative method was constructed to quantitative detect the spatial pattern of Chengdu’s medical services. This method can help to accurately identify the spatial equality of the medical service function, thereby facilitating further refined policy formulation to improve these functions. Results The results for accessibility within the life circle indicate that 97.69% of the population and 63.76% of metropolitan Chengdu enjoy total access to medical services, but this desirable accessibility gradually decreases around the central line of Chengdu and the central areas of other districts and counties. The multi-center hierarchical structure of level II, level III and the total function reflects the fact that accessibility to medical facilities in the main urban areas is better than that in the surrounding counties, and in the central urban areas of these surrounding counties are better than that in their peripheral areas. the spatial equality for the total function, level III, and level II exhibits a clear hierarchical structure, namely core-edge pattern. Urban construction is gradually spread from the center to the outside, which fundamentally determines the skeleton of the spatial pattern of medical service facilities in Chengdu. Conclusions Findings of this research contribute new theoretical and methodological insights into addressing the spatial equality of public service functions in complex regional and urban system.
