Study on the Positioning Accuracy of the GNSS/INS System Supported by the RTK Receiver for Railway Measurements

Abstract: Currently, the primary method for determining the object coordinates is positioning using Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) supported by Inertial Navigation Systems (INS). The main goal of this solution is to ensure high positioning availability, particularly when access to satellite signals is limited (in tunnels, areas with densely concentrated buildings and in forest areas). The aim of this article is to determine whether the GNSS/INS system supported by the RTK receiver is suitable for the impleme… Show more

“…Additionally, estimating the location in the vertical position, for example, determining the floor in a building, is another important issue. The accuracy of determining the location in the vertical position, in the case of satellite navigation systems, is relatively low, which has been described in publications [9], [10]. It is also worth mentioning that, however, the GNSSs have been especially designed for estimating the location in open spaces, in the case of a building, devices working in WLAN/WSN (Wireless Local Area Network/Wireless Sensor Network) standards working in open bands (ISM) of the frequency of 2400 MHz, e.g., Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, are usually applied [11], [12].…”

“…Mathematical calculations for equations (1)-(2) were performed in RTKLIB v.2.4.2 [54]. Next, the determination of the UAV's precise flight trajectory was performed using the differential phase technique RTK [55]. The calculations at this stage were performed in Topcon MAGNET Tools v.5.1.1.0 [56].…”

“…In order to reduce the position measurement error, inertial and satellite systems are supported by additional devices such as LiDAR, odometry and vision sensors [ 32 , 33 ]. GNSS/INS systems are used primarily in navigation and transport applications, which include mobile phone tracking [ 34 , 35 ]; indoor [ 36 ], land [ 37 ] and space [ 38 ] navigation; geodetic [ 39 , 40 ] and hydrographic [ 41 , 42 ] measurements; driving autonomous ground vehicles [ 43 , 44 ]; as well as car [ 45 , 46 ] and rail transport [ 47 , 48 ].…”
