Study on tribological behaviour of aluminium hybrid composites strengthened with novel groundnut shell ash and boron carbide

Abstract: The current study reveals the dry sliding wear behaviour of novel groundnut shell ash and boron carbide (B4C) reinforced hybrid aluminium matrix composite fabricated through the squeeze casting process. The experiments were carried out on the basis of Taguchi's L27 (3)13 orthogonal array and optimization by genetic algorithm. The input parameters namely reinforcement percentage (wt.%), applied load (20, 30, 40 N), sliding speed (1, 2, 3 m/s) and wear rate, coefficient of friction as a measurable response. The … Show more

“…These compounds help to enhance adhesive properties and also increase load bearing capability of the matrix. [22][23][24][25] Due to heating thermal stress is generated which may also influence the strength. Also, the thermal variation between the matrix and CPA/TiB 2 is a reason for the increase in strength.…”

“…27 The aluminum matrix hybrid composites (AMHCs) are reinforced with groundnut shell ash and boron carbide. 28 According to the base alloy, the mechanical properties of the hybrid composites displayed more than 50% improvement. Authors declared that one of the most important parameters in improving the mechanical properties of hybrid composites is the reinforcing percentage and also the groundnut shell ash is environmental friendly.…”

“…Al has weak hardness and strength for the indicated purpose given their low weight. Aluminum matrix composites, a successful method of enhancing the mechanical properties of aluminum alloys, are created by the adding of reinforcement particles to the matrix alloys [10]. The usage of nitrides, carbides, oxides, and a few intermetallic compounds as reinforcing particles for AMCs has been widespread.…”
