Study protocol of psychometric properties of the Spanish translation of a competence test in evidence based practice: The Fresno test

Abstract: Background: There are few high-quality instruments for evaluating the effectiveness of EvidenceBased Practice (EBP) curricula with objective outcomes measures. The Fresno test is an instrument that evaluates most of EBP steps with a high reliability and validity in the English original version. The present study has the aims to translate the Fresno questionnaire into Spanish and its subsequent validation to ensure the equivalence of the Spanish version against the English original.

“…A limitation of this study was the small number of students who completed both the pre‐ and post‐tests, which may in part be due to the voluntary nature of these tests and also to the large number of participants who did not complete the course, a frequent event in distance courses . Previous studies on EBH courses also report large dropout rates due to student absenteeism in educational sessions or not taking all the tests . To minimize losses, some authors have proposed compulsory participation in assessments .…”

“…Following Argimon et al's methodology [21], we have assessed the variability in responses to the questionnaire calculating the average and the standard deviation (SD) and calculated the frequencies to check for floor and ceiling effects [22]. These effects are important as they can influence the validity, reliability and responsiveness of a questionnaire and they are used to check the percentage of participants with very low and very high scores.…”
