Study the factors affecting the performance of organic–inorganic hybrid coatings

Abstract: In this article, a series of hybrid organic–inorganic coatings based on silica‐epoxy composite resins were prepared with the sol‐gel method by using γ‐aminopropyl triethoxysilane as a coupling agent. Especially, the research emphasized on the factors that influenced on the properties of the prepared hybrid coatings. Firstly, epoxy resin was reacted with γ‐aminopropyl triethoxysilane at a specific feeding molar ratio; subsequently, the asprepared sol–gel precursor was cohydrolyzed with tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) … Show more

“…Taking C3 as an example, the strong peak at 1091 cm −1 in its IR spectrum is attributed to the formation of SiOSi bonds, which confirms the hydrolysis and polycondensation of the silanol groups. The disappearance of the absorbance peak in the IR spectrum of Epox3 at 913 cm −1 (epoxy bending) confirms epoxy conversion and covalent attachment of Epox3 to the silane group . The absorption peaks at 1548 and 1679 cm −1 correspond to the CN and CO groups of the urethane moiety, respectively.…”

“…This new process was based on the use of amino-silanes as crosslinking agents 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane, 3-(2-aminoethyl) aminopropyltrimethoxysilane and 3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyldiethylenetriamine [33]. In a recent work, Li et al have prepared a series of hybrid organic-inorganic coatings based on silica-epoxy composite coatings with the sol-gel method by using the amino-silane 3-aminopropyl triethoxysilane as a coupling agent and tetraethoxysilane to afford chemical bonding to form silica networks organic-inorganic hybrid coatings [34].…”

“…A slight wrinkle might be caused by the shrinkage of polymer chains during the process of the sol-gel reaction. 22 Due to a high chemical-bond energy (Si-O-Si, 422.5 kJ mol −1 ), it requires more energy to destroy the PDMS-based elastomer. 23 From Fig.…”
