“…Today it is commonly referred to as osteopetrosis. 3 It is a dysplasia of the primary spongiosa and may be caused by several gene mutations. The typical appearance on radiographs and computed tomography consists of an increased sclerosis of the spongiosa, resulting in loss of tubulation of the long bones, a “bone-within-bone” appearance at the ends of the diaphysis, and “sandwich vertebrae” due to sclerosis under the vertebral end plates.…”
