Abstract: Background: Self-expandable metal stent (SEMS) placement is recommended for unresectable malignant hilar biliary obstructions (MHBOs), and a recent randomized study showed that bilateral SEMS placement resulted in fewer reinterventions and better stent patency than unilateral SEMS placement.
