“…In most cases of p‐SCLE the rash precedes the tumour diagnoses. The underlying tumours have been lung, breast, gastric, hepatocellular, non‐Hodgkin lymphoma, laryngeal, uterine and oesophageal adenocarcinoma in situ , but this is the first time SCLE has been linked to cholangiocarcinoma . Paraneoplastic SCLE has been described in relation to cancers of different stages.…”

“…Cases are described that completely or partially satisfy McLean’s criteria—with simultaneous onset of SCLE and malignancy, remission of the SCLE when the malignancy is treated, and relapse of both diseases concurrently 1–6. The most common malignancies associated with paraneoplastic SCLE seem to be lung and breast cancer, but numerous other cancers have been implicated 2–17. It appears that most cases present similar to idiopathic SCLE, and most are anti-Ro antibody positive 2–17.…”

It appears that most cases present similar to idiopathic SCLE, and most are anti-Ro antibody positive 2–17. In addition to treating the underlying malignancy, treatment approaches similar to those for idiopathic forms of cutaneous lupus can be used.…”

“…Although SCLE is classically characterized as either idiopathic or drug-induced, there has been sufficient evidence in the literature to consider certain cases of SCLE to have a paraneoplastic etiology [ 19 ]. There have been multiple reports of SCLE arising in the setting of internal malignancy including two cases in breast adenocarcinomas [ 20 ]. Like other paraneoplastic dermatoses, presentations of paraneoplastic SCLE follow the criteria in that the cutaneous findings appear temporally after development of the malignancy, and their clinical courses typically run parallel [ 21 ].…”
