Subjective Voice Assessment after Endoscopic Surgery for an Obstructive Reinke Edema Using Voice Handicap Index

Abstract: Voice disorders exert a dramatic influence on patients' quality of life (QOL). The physical, functional, and emotional impact can be accurately assessed using the conventional questionnaire of "voice handicap index" (VHI) or its shorter version, the VHI-10. We evaluated the VHI scores of patients suffering from obstructive Reinke's edema, a benign laryngeal disorder, before and after endoscopic treatment. Comparison of pre-and postoperative VHI scores showed the treatment efficacy. The scores achieved were sim… Show more

“…Compared to RE treatment, numerous reports have previously demonstrated the value of ML approaches, 2,19,20 while in‐office procedures have only been recently considered suitable. Young and colleagues reported an average change of −8.3 in the VHI‐10 and a regression rate of 81% using the KTP laser in the outpatient clinic 21 .…”

“…Moreover, in our study, the persistence rate of VFP after OB treatment was 4%, similar to Kim and colleagues, who achieved a complete regression rate of 96% in treating VFPs in the same setting. 18 Compared to RE treatment, numerous reports have previously demonstrated the value of ML approaches, 2,19,20 while in-office procedures have only been recently considered suitable. Young and colleagues reported an average change of À8.3 in the VHI-10 and a regression rate of 81% using the KTP laser in the outpatient clinic.…”

“…Traditional voice disorder treatment and assessment protocols center on forms of objective acoustic measurement, primarily focusing on components of voice production. 1,2 However, these measures do not take into account vocal function from the perspective of the patient, as well as the level of handicap experienced as a result of the disorder. 2,3 This handicap refers to the inability to perform certain tasks and the resulting social, economic and environmental disadvantage that results from this impairment.…”
