Subscales to the taylor manifest anxiety scale in three chronically ill populations

Abstract: In a sample of 150 people drawn from a population of asthma, tuberculosis, and chronic pain patients, a key cluster analysis revealed five different clusters of items in the Taylor Manifest Anxiety Scale: Restlessness, Embarrassment, Sensitivity, Physiological Anxiety, and Self‐Confidence. These clusters are consistent and four of them appear moderately related, whereas Embarrassment is fairly independent of the others.

“…To illustrate, Redding and Livneh (1986) claimed that the MAS reflected three kinds (factors) of anxiety: (1) Generalized Anxiety, (2) Physiological Anxiety, and (3) Worries-Tension. In contrast, P. N. Moore et al (1984) viewed the MAS as revealing five kinds of anxiety, which they labeled restlessness, embarrassment, sensitivity, physiological anxiety, and self-confidence. A second topic of interest that entails current use of the MAS has been to assess individual differences in the extent to which people actively try to prevent themselves from thinking about "anxiety-producing" past experiences (Asendorpf & Scherer, 1983;L.…”
