“…6 The derivatives of 2,4-imidazolidinedione are a pharmaceutically important class of compounds and 5,5-diphenyl-2,4-imidazolidinedione (5P5P), known in medicine as Dilantin or phenytoin, is the most widely used anticonvulsant drug. 7 Phenytoin interacts strongly with its antiserum; in fact, the complex formed between these biomolecules has a very low dissociation constant (K d D 1.4 ð 10 10 M). 8 -10 The hydroxy derivatives [5-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-5-phenyl-2,4-imidazolidinedione (5POH5P) and 5-(3-hydroxyphenyl)-5-phenyl-2,4-imidazolidinedione (5MOH5P)] are metabolites of phenytoin and have different crossreactivities with respect to the examined antiserum (0.65 and about 0.20, respectively); 11 these metabolites, conjugated with glucuronic acid, are excreted in the urine.…”
