Subtle Influences of a Flexible Tecton on an R22(8) Carboxyl Dimer Synthon: From Molecular Threading to 2D → 3D Interpenetration

Abstract: The use of well-defined synthons and rigid tectons has allowed for great advancement in the reticular synthesis of hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks. However, the use and influence of flexible tectons on the well-reported R2 2(8) carboxyl dimer synthon is a largely unexplored area. As part of our investigation, we report here the structures of ten polymorphs/pseudopolymorphs (1–10) of the flexible tecton 3-[2,5,5′-tris(2′-carboxyethyl)-1,1′-dioxo-1″λ6-thiolan-2″-yl]propanoic acid (L). L provided a rich vari… Show more

“…in solution using different non-covalent interactions [30][31][32][33]. Since the presence of a carboxyl group causes molecules to form various aggregates, in a continuation of our work on the design of a new effective fluorophore based on a 1,2,3-triazole core, we should evaluate the extent of their ability to form NCIs [34][35][36][37][38].…”

“…This is indeed a substantial interaction between subunits acting to stabilize the framework, consistent with hydrogen-bonding in other crystalline solids displaying the R 2 2 (8) synthon. 42 The broad hydrogen-bonding band for the synthesized sample is in contrast to the resolved, narrow peaks of the fingerprint region (below 1600 cm À1 ), which are associated with the ring deformation vibrational modes intrinsic to the TP 2À and Cta 4+ components. In the synchrotron mid-IR spectra, most prominent bands are observed to align with predicted vibrational frequencies of either the HOF unit cell (1), or the Fig.…”
