“…Amorphea includes opisthokonts, Amoebozoa, and several protist lineages of uncertain phylogenetic placement, such as apusomonads, ancryomonads, and the breviate amoebae. (Heiss et al 2011;Katz et al 2011;Brown et al 2013). The rest of eukaryotes comprises excavates and the recently erected mega-clade Diaphoretickes (Adl et al 2012), which recognizes the SAR and Archaeplastida clade (Burki et al 2008) and corresponds to the corticates of Cavalier-Smith (2010a).…”

“…DUF3361 is found only in proteins within the ELMO subfamily with two notable exceptions. One of the five ELMOD family members (ElmoD_A) in the apusomonad Thecamonas trahens, a putative sister group to the Opisthokonta supergroup (50,51), and one of six ELMOD family members (ElmoA) in the amoebozoan D. discoideum contains DUF3361 but no PH domain. These proteins did not cluster with the ELMO subfamily, but no strongly supported nodes separated them.…”

“…Breviates ( Breviata , Subulatomonas ) are microaerophilic gliding amoebofl agellates with a single anterior fl agellum (Walker et al 2006 ;Katz et al 2011 ). They are superfi cially similar to pelobionts (Amoebozoa), but different in the shape of pseudopodia, the presence of outer dynein arms and the structure of the fl agellar apparatus.…”

“…They engulf large preys such as other protists and cyanobacteria, and play an important role in reduction of cyanobacterial blooms (Kobayashi et al 2013 ). The precise phylogenetic positions of breviates and collodictyonids are not resolved, but molecular data suggest that they are one of the earliest divergences in eukaryotes (Katz et al 2011 ;Zhao et al 2012 ).…”
