Successful cultivation of a valuable wild strain of Lepista sordida from Thailand

Abstract: Lepista sordida is an edible and medicinal mushroom, but until now it had to be collected from the wild. The present study is the first report of the successful cultivation of a wild strain of L. sordida from Thailand. The morphological description and molecular examination of the fungus are included, in order to confirm the identification of the species. Optimization was carried out for mycelium growth and fruiting body production. The optimal conditions for growing the mycelia on solid medium were yeast malt… Show more

“…sordida as a valuable edible and medicinal mushroom is widespread in northern temperate zones throughout the world (Terashima & Fujiie, 2005). L. sordida was successfully cultivated for the first time in Thailand from a wild strain (Thongbai et al, 2017). This strain was identified by morphological description and ITS molecular technique and a temperature of 25 -30 °C was the best for mycelial growth.…”

“…Singer, a basidiomycetous fungus of the family Tricholomataceae, is an edible and medicinal agaric species which grows in the wild in China, Thailand, Korea [4,58,143]. Moreover, there is a report on the artificial cultivation of a wild strain of L. sordida from Thailand [144]. A water-soluble polysaccharide isolated from the fruiting bodies, which significantly increased the nitric oxide and NF-α release from macrophages, was established to have a backbone consisting of (1→6)-linked-α-d-glucopyranosyl and (1→2,6)-linked-α-d-glucopyranosyl residues, terminated with a terminal (1→)-α-d-galactopyranosyl residue at the O-3 position of a (1→2,6)-linked-α-d-glucopyranosyl residue along the main chain [145].…”

“…sordida is such a mushroom that belongs to the clitocyboid agaric genus (Family-Tricholomataceae), commonly known as flesh-brown blewit. The species was first described by Mycologist Elias Magnus Fries as Agaricus sordidus (Thongbai et al, 2017). Widely distributed in Asia, North America and Europe, 8 species of Lepista genus have been recorded as edible from all over the world (Alvarado et al, 2015).…”

“…Among them majority of the medicinal attributes have been assigned to L. sordida. A vast number of studies have been documented regarding its ideal condition of cultivation, especially of the Chinese and Thai strains (Tian, Feng, Zhong, 2003;Li et al, 2014, Thongbai et al, 2017. They are described as a rich source of carbohydrates, essential amino acids, dietary fibers (Hu et al, 2016).…”
