“…The decrease of live, morphologically normal spermatozoa with simultaneous increase in deformed ones, has been described in roosted semen stored in vitro up to 24 h at 4°C (Blesbois et al., ; Siudzińska & Łukaszewicz, ), but our earlier experiment carried out on capercaillie semen (Kowalczyk et al., ) indicated, similarly as in the presented one, that changes observed in spermatozoa morphology were not significant. It might suggest that capercaillie spermatozoa are more resistant to lipid peroxidation and antioxidant imbalance caused by the oxidative stress occurring during in vitro liquid semen storage than other Galliformes species.…”
