Successful Treatment of Calcified Patent Ductus in an Elderly Patient

Abstract: Successful surgical treatment of calcified patient ductus arteriosus (PDA) in a 57-year-old man is presented. A surgical approach was made through a median sternotomy, and a Fogarty balloon catheter was inserted through the PDA from the main pulmonary artery. After the balloon had been inflated and pulled back, the thrill due to the PDA disappeared. The catheter was secured in place using a purse-string suture and a tourniquet.
