Sugar and free amino acid composition of five cultivars of dates from offshoots or vitroplants in open fields

Abstract: Morphological and chemical analyses of mature dates related to the propagation method (traditional vegetative propagation and two different methods of in vitro multiplication) of the date palm are presented. No significant differences were seen among Bou Sthammi noire, Mejhool, Theory, and Zahidi cultivare propagated by traditional methods and by the French Group on Date Palm Research in vitro multiplication technique, based on axillary budding. These results could indicate that the vitroplants conform to moth… Show more

“…The differences observed between the cultivars and the samples of the same cultivar can be explained by the type of soil where date palms are grown and the irrigation status. The ash content is low compared to the weight of dry matter of fruit, reflecting a fairly active synthesis of organic compounds by the vegetative parts [5].…”

“…The sugar fraction of Deglet Nour and Kentichi cultivars of Tunisia was essentially formed by non-reducing sugars (~53.59-58.40 g/100g dry matter) [28]. "Thoory" date cultivar with dry consistence contains 40% of sucrose [5].…”

“…Sugar levels were measured according to the high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method of Booij et al (1992). Sugars were extracted from date fruits (3 g) with 25 ml of ultrapure water for 10 min (stirring frequently to aid dissolving the sugars).…”
