“…The SMR for patients with Psychopathic Disorder decreased when suicide and undetermined deaths were combined. However, the sample size was smaller for patients with Psychopathic Disorder and there was only one further (Gordon, 2002). The percentage of deaths from suicide in this study was similar to that found in the previous largest follow-up of a single MSU (Maden, Rutter, McClintock et al, 1999) and that found in a national survey of MSUs (Coid, Hickey, & Yang, 2007).…”

“…Previously, the risk of death in people with schizophrenia from all causes and suicide has been shown to be 1.5 times greater and 9 times greater than expected, respectively (Harris & Barraclough, 1998). Shaw, Baker, Hunt et al (2004) report the convention for studies of suicide to include probable suicides in which another verdict (usually open) was reached.…”

“…URMs in different host countries and with different origins have high levels of mental health problems, including PTSD, depression, anxiety and emotional and behavioural problems (Huemer et al 2009 ; Bronstein et al 2012 ; Bronstein et al 2013 ; Jakobsen et al 2014 ). The psychiatric morbidity, along with the higher rate of self-harm or suicidal behaviour, contributed to the overrepresentation of URMs in voluntary and involuntary inpatient psychiatric care (Gordon 2002 ).…”

“…It is often the case that patients will have histories of both which tend to correlate in terms of level of intensity, and interventions to manage one behaviour often result in the other coming to the fore (e.g. staff being assaulted when they intervene to prevent self‐harm or acts of self‐harm or suicide following interventions to manage aggression) (Hillbrand 2001, Gordon 2002).…”
