Suitability of aluminum material on sugar industry wastewater with chemical and electrochemical treatment processes

Abstract: Aluminum is a valuable material, which can be used for water and wastewater treatment. It exists in metal as well as in salt form. The efficiency of water and wastewater treatment depends upon the technology applied to treat. Sugarcane industry is coming under those industries which have a large amount of freshwater and release large amount of effluent. The goal of this research work is to study the behavior of aluminum metal and salt for the treatment of sugar industry wastewater on chemical oxidation and ele… Show more

“…The term cathode can be defined as the electrode that allows conventional current to flow out of the device (Bitenc et al., 2020). Aluminum (Sahu, 2019), graphite (Samarghandi et al., 2020), titanium (Ghimire et al., 2019), and iron (Deng et al., 2020) are among the widely applicable electrode material in the field of wastewater treatment. The basic features for an electrode material are being electronically conductive, as well as possessing the capacity to interact with the molecules in water.…”

“…The reason for this contradiction can be attributed to the aluminum ions that appear in different phases and forms, depending on the pH and the chemical features of the solution. This finds that in the pH range of 5-6, aluminum may be in the forms of Al(OH) 2+ , while, in the pH neutral range (6)(7)(8), aluminum changes to the form of Al (OH) 3 , which means more pollutants removal and stability [69,70].…”

“…Aluminum alloys are light, conductive, and corrosion resistant, properties that have made them a widely used material with applications in the aerospace, architectural construction, and marine industries, as well as in many domestic contexts [1,2]. Pure aluminum is the Earth's third most abundant element, accounting for about 8% of the mass of the Earth's crust, and it never occurs as a free element in nature [3,4].…”
