“…Very young patients had a poor prognosis before penicillin became available (Cooke, 1941 ;Waring and Weinstein, 1948;Jackson, 1950), but the prognosis for infants when penicillin is used appears fairly good. With penicillin treatment, Waring and Weinstein (1948) noted a 69% recovery for patients under 2 years old (58 cases), while Nemir and Israel (1951) lost only one of nine infants, and Ross and Burke (1946) achieved a recovery of all nine infants.
