“…In response to 21-day treatment of patients with psoriasis with sulfur medicinal water, dermal pool of dendritic cells almost disappeared and the epidermal populations of Langerhans cells showed normal distribution. Plasma concentration of somatostatin in psoriatic patients was higher than in healthy volunteers, and its level showed a further increase in response to bath treatment (18).…”

“…Psoriasis is a recurrent and chronic inflammatory disease with a prevalence of 0.5–4.6% in different regions. In addition to physical effects, it is accompanied by social and emotional complications and causes significant disability (Ahlehoff et al, ; Azfar & Gelfand, ; Boros et al, ; Duarte & Chehin, ; Qiu, Zhu, Jia, Chen, & Meng, ). There is no definitive cure for psoriasis (Golusin et al, ).…”

“…There is no definitive cure for psoriasis (Golusin et al, ). Symptoms can be treated with topical, systemic, or biological therapies (Boros et al, ; Péter et al, ), and there are side effects to these options (Bruner, Feldman, Ventrapragada, & Fleischer, ; Davis, ; Duarte & Chehin, ). Balneotherapy or the use of mineral waters or clays can be proposed as an alternative, safe, and natural treatment (Boros et al, ; Golusin et al, ).…”

“…In a study published in 2013 the effect of sulphurous medicinal water in a murine dermatitis model and on psoriatic patients was observed. The results provided evidence that somatostatin released by hydrogen sulfide plays role in the mechanism of action of sulphurous medicinal water [47]. The thermal stress has an immunosuppressive effect.…”
