Summary of the 8th Asia-Pacific Transport Working Group (APTWG) Meeting

Abstract: This conference report gives a summary on the contributed papers and discussions presented at the 8th Asia-Pacific Transport Working Group Meeting held at the Engineering & Technical College of Chengdu University of Technology, Leshan, China, from 12 to 15 June 2018. The objective of the meeting is to develop a predictive understanding of the physical mechanisms responsible for particle, energy and momentum transport in magnetically confined plasmas. In order to achieve this objective, five technical working g… Show more

“…The toroidal flow can be driven by the poloidal flow in order to satisfy the divergence free condition [6] even without the driving forces, such as by the neutral beam torque and/or by the turbulent Reynolds force [7]. Actually, such a toroidal flow in the pedestal region has been observed to have a steep gradient in experiments [4] and simulations [5]. In this way, the strong helical flow, and the combination of the strong poloidal and toroidal flows, exists at the pedestal region of the H-mode plasmas, which can dramatically affect instabilities.…”

“…The joint meeting was postponed due to the pandemic of COVID-19 and was held online as a virtual conference in 2021. This meeting is a series of APTWG meetings, which started at NIFS Japan in 2011 [1] and has been held every year 2011 -2018 and every two years afterward in China, Korea, or Japan [2][3][4][5][6][7][8].…”
