Our description is intended for R&D managers in government, electric utilities, firms, and national laboratories who wish an overview of what has been done and what remains tobe done. It is assumed that the reader is acquainted with superconductivity, but not an expert on the topics discussed here. Indeed, it is the author's aim to enable the reader to better understand the experts who may ask for the reader's attention, support, or funding. This report may also inlbrm scientists and engineers who, though expert in related areas, wish to have an introduction to our topic.
