Supercritical CO2 extraction of Schinus molle L with co-solvents: mathematical modeling and antimicrobial applications

Abstract: This work investigates the antimicrobial activity of the Schinus molle L. leaves extracts obtained under supercritical conditions using carbon dioxide and co-solvents. Antimicrobial qualitative evaluation was carried out through the bioautography technique and the microorganisms studied were Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosas, Escherichia coli, Micrococcus luteus, and Salmonella choleraesuis. The supercritical fluid extraction was carried out in a pilot

“…terebinthifolius leaves essential oil low content does not correspond to those ones presented in the literature (Barbosa et al, 2007;Santos et al, 2009). Moreover, S. terebinthifolius fruit essential oil content (Gomes et al, 2013a) and S. molle leaves and fruit essential oils were similar to those ones presented in the literature (Dikshit et al, 1986;Zahed et al, 2010;Torres et al, 2012;Scopel et al, 2013) and higher to those ones presented by Santos et al (2009).…”

“…Different results have been reported regarding the content of essential oil extracted from S. molle , using different methods, such as supercritical fluid extraction (Barroso et al 2011; Scopel et al . 2013), extraction from fresh plant parts (Murray et al . 2005; Benzi et al .…”
