Supercritical CO2 foaming of open‐cell polypropylene/ethylene propylene diene monomer composite foams with oriented cellular structures for water treatment

Abstract: Efficient treatment of tiny media in wastewater is a global challenge. Herein, an ingenious design to fabricate the highly open‐cell polypropylene (PP)/ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) composite foams for water treatment by using supercritical CO2 (scCO2) extrusion foaming coupling with post‐stretching is presented. The tensile strain of high melt strength PP is fully utilized in an extensional flow field during foaming. Meanwhile, EPDM is added into PP matrix for obtaining the highly open‐cell and orie… Show more

“…Specifically, Zhou et al investigated the effect of maleic anhydride-grafted PP for PP/bamboo (33 phr) composite foams, indicating that the interfacial compatibility of PP and BP was improved distinctly and demonstrating improved mechanical properties (like modulus) . Moreover, our previous studies found that high melt strength PP with tensile strain hardening characteristics has outstanding foaming behavior under external stress field and can obtain the gradient porous structures. , …”

“…33 Moreover, our previous studies found that high melt strength PP with tensile strain hardening characteristics has outstanding foaming behavior under external stress field and can obtain the gradient porous structures. 34,35 In this work, a facile strategy of extruding foaming−postcalendering procedure was used to prepare foamed PP/ bamboo powder (BP) composite fabrics with sandwich structures (like cellular−solid−cellular structures). The microstructure of prepared fabrics can be adjustable, and their thermal insulation and mechanical properties can be greatly improved.…”
