Superfluid Fraction ofH3eH4

Abstract: We report measurements of the superfluid fraction rho(s)/rho of films of (3)He-(4)He mixtures confined between silicon wafers at 0.0483 microm separation. The data obtained using adiabatic fountain resonance (AFR) can be used to test for the first time expectations of correlation-length scaling in the case of planar mixtures. For the mixtures, the data for rho(s)/rho collapse well on a universal function. The dissipation associated with AFR can also be scaled, and indicates two-dimensional crossover. These res… Show more

“…[51,52]. On the other hand, more recent experiments [55,56] on 4 He films with thicker films seem to match less well. We have also computed the universal amplitude ratio [L 0,KT /ξ 2nd ] * = 3.864(9), where ξ 2nd is the second moment correlation length of the three-dimensional bulk system in the high temperature phase.…”

“…Two sets of data are plotted here. The open circles are for a uniform film 48.3 nm thick 25 , and the filled circles are for the 31.7 nm film in the presence of the (2 µm) 3 boxes. The behaviour of the bulk ρ s /ρ is indicated as a solid line 26 .…”

“…In addition, the specific heat is sensitive to the universal value of in a different way from that of the mixtures in the thermodynamic limit. We note that we have reported results for the superfluid density of confined mixtures at a single value of L which were also shown to scale on the same locus as for x 0 [12]. However, the specific heat provides a much more sensitive way to test universality because is very close to zero.…”
