Supergravity Duals of Matrix String Theory

Abstract: We study holographic duals of type II and heterotic matrix string theories described by warped AdS 3 supergravities. By explicitly solving the linearized equations of motion around near horizon D-string geometries, we determine the spectrum of Kaluza-Klein primaries for type I, II supergravities on warped AdS 3 × S 7 . The results match those coming from the dual two-dimensional gauge theories living on the D-string worldvolumes. We briefly discuss the connections with the N = (8, 8), N = (8, 0) orbifold super… Show more

“…This provides an explicit AdS 3 dual of the world-sheet CFT of N c heterotic strings, albeit at strong string coupling, and should be a useful tool in trying to resolve some of the puzzles raised recently concerning the structure of this duality [54,57,56,55]. AdS/CFT duals of matrix string theory have been discussed previously in [53].…”

“…In its ungauged form, the field equations describe a dilaton-gravity coupled non-linear σ-model with target space E 8(8) /SO (16). These equations are classically integrable, which leads to the existence of a linear system [22,23] and an infinite-dimensional global symmetry group E 9(9) [24], the centrally extended affine E 8 (8) , which extends the target space isometries and can be realized on-shell on the equations of motion. As in higher dimensions, particular subgroups of the global symmetry group can be gauged preserving maximal supersymmetry by introducing proper gauge couplings.…”

“…This theory corresponds to the gauging of an SO(9) subgroup which however includes generators living beyond the E 8 (8) zero modes of the affine algebra. In other words, this theory includes the gauging of symmetries beyond the standard E 8 (8) target space isometries.…”

“…We will focus on the spectrum of the theory, leaving the issue of interactions to future investigations. KK reductions of supergravities on AdS p × S q spaces have been studied in various contexts [30,31,32]. Here we apply these techniques in order to determine the spectrum of KK descendants of higher string excitations on AdS 5 × S 5 .…”
