Superhydrophilicity-assisted preparation of transparent and visible light activated N-doped titania film

Abstract: A novel and environmental friendly method was developed to prepare transparent, uniform, crack-free and visible light activated nitrogen doped (N-doped) titania thin films without the use of organic Ti precursors and organic solvents. The N-doped titania films were prepared from heating aqueous peroxotitanate thin films deposited uniformly on superhydrophilic uncoated glass substrates. The pure glass substrates were superhydrophilic after being heated at 500 degrees C for 1 h. Nitrogen concentrations in the ti… Show more

“…Apparently, the nitrogen dopant greatly promoted the light harvesting ability [56,57]. Since there is no red shift of the band edge and negligible absorption above 600 nm, the enhanced response to visible light should be attributed to the localized states near the top of VB of anatase TiO 2 introduced by nitrogen dopant, rather than the generation of oxygen vacancies [58].…”

“…groups which imply that carbon and nitrogen were successfully incorporated into the structural lattice (Xu et al 2010). The signals in the range of 500-1,250 cm -1 are characteristic of the formation of O-Ti-O lattices (Chen et al 2005).…”

“…The precipitates was dried then calcined in air at 500ºC for 1 h. All samples were labelled as CNTO10, CNTO20 and CNTO25. Ammonia solution was replaced by NaOH solution for preparing un-doped TiO 2 and C-doped TiO 2 (CT) [15,17].…”

“…However, sol gel method always involves organic solvents and adding other expensive cost chemicals. Here, synthesis of C-N-codoped TiO 2 by peroxo sol gel was an effective way to solve above problems, became more efficient and environmental friendly due to using water only as the solvent [15]. Furthermore, a few publications have been published about photocatalytic activity reduction of Cr(VI) with multi-non-metal-codoped TiO 2 material under visible light irradiation.…”
