Superhydrophobic Surface-Constructed Membrane Contactor with Hierarchical Lotus-Leaf-Like Interfaces for Efficient SO2 Capture

Abstract: An organic–inorganic polyvinylidene fluoride/polyvinylidene fluoride–silica (PVDF/PVDF-SiO2) mixed matrix membrane contactor is fabricated via a facile and efficient hydrophobic modification method. The solubility parameters of the PVDF particle are precisely regulated, the PVDF particles are blended with SiO2 nanoparticles to form PVDF-SiO2 suspension, and then the suspension is introduced onto the surface of the PVDF substrate by an in situ spin coating strategy. The PVDF particles are partly etched and inco… Show more

“…The resulting PVDF/PVDF-SiO 2 lm contactor had a more regular pore size distribution, excellent hydrophobic properties, and a water CA close to 158°. 33 Emel Yilgör compared the effects of both scratch-coating and spin-coating preparation methods on the surface roughness and hydrophobic properties of the coatings. It was found that the number of layers of spin coating had almost no effect on the coating and was a stable preparation method.…”

“… 12 As a hydrophobic material, poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) material is always utilized to fabricate superhydrophobic membrane. 13 Common superhydrophobic PVDF membrane formation strategies are relating to the addition of inorganic nanoparticles and polyfluoropolymer with CF 3 group, which exist concerned environmental risks. 14 , 15 Thus, developing a facile and green method without other additions is a great challenge.…”
