Superior Mechanical Properties and Work-Hardening Ability of Ultrafine-Grained Quenched and Partitioned Steels Processed by a Novel Approach Involving Asymmetric Hot Rolling

Abstract: An approach is proposed to enhance the mechanical properties and work-hardening (WH) ability of low-alloy steels. Using asymmetric hot rolling (AHR) and subsequent direct quenching (DQ) prior to the quenching and partitioning (Q&P) process, an ultrafine-grained Q&P steel with excellent combination of tensile strength of ~1000 MPa and total elongation of ~35% was obtained, which exhibited high WH exponent at higher strain induced by the higher volume fraction and higher stability of film-like retained a… Show more

“…Three articles focus on the development of industry-relevant processes consisting of thermo-mechanical rolling, followed by direct quenching and partitioning (DQ&P). The article by Tang et al [3] presents a process based on asymmetric hot rolling, followed by a DQ&P process. It was applied to a Fe-0.2C-1.5Mn-1.3Si-0.2Al (wt.%) steel, resulting in the formation of an ultrafine-grained microstructure with an excellent combination of the ultimate tensile strength of~1000 MPa and total elongation of~35%, and enhanced workhardening behaviour.…”

“…[182]. Tang et al [191] propusieron un nuevo enfoque de procesamiento, que fusiona el laminado en caliente asimétrico, el enfriamiento directo, la partición, el temple y el laminado en frío, constituyendo un proceso de cinco etapas. Los resultados obtenidos son favorables alcanzando un 35,8 GPa% de absorción de energía.…”
