Supersymmetric D‐branes on flux backgrounds

Abstract: Several aspects concerning the physics of D-branes in Type II flux compactifications preserving minimal N=1 supersymmetry in four dimensions are considered. It is shown how these vacua are completely characterized in terms of properly defined generalized calibrations for D-branes and the relation with Generalized Complex Geometry is discussed. General expressions for superpotentials and D-terms associated with the N=1 four-dimensional description of space-time filling D-branes are presented. The massless spect… Show more

“…The result is type IIB on T 6 /Z 2 with 64 O3-planes. 17 Such planes have tensions equal to minus one quarter of the D3-brane tension. The internal three-form fluxes and the number N D3 of D3-branes which extend along the noncompact R 1,3 are related by the tadpole condition…”

“…We now discuss the superpotential. Starting from the F-theory perspective the aim is to recover the well-known brane superpotential for a D7-brane in Type IIB theory [61,109,112] 13) in addition to the standard Type IIB bulk superpotential. Here, Γ 5 is the five-chain swept out by a pair of D7-branes as they are pulled off the O7-plane.…”

“…While, for most cases, we indicate ways in which these mass terms can be absent or suppressed, we stress that large parts of the subject are still work in progress and will be discussed more thoroughly in a further publication [21]. The most direct way in which the D7-brane modulus ζ can enter the F -term potential is through a direct appearance in the tree-level superpotential [48,[84][85][86][87][88] W brane = C 5 Ω ∧F.…”
