A fundamental aspect in the design of a complex system is the use of systems concepts, principles and laws in terms of a holistic view of the problem under study. The increasing complexity of subsea production systems demand the development of condition monitoring, supervision, integrated diagnosis and control technologies to achieve the synergy among all different subsystems and therefore increase performance, reliability, safety and optimize the overall operation for the subsea facility. This paper explores the use of a system of systems engineering approach to develop a framework to support intelligent control, supervision and integrated diagnosis applicable for subsea production and processing systems.
