Supply Chain Resilience Analysis: A Brazilian Automotive Case

Abstract: Supply chain (SC) resilience and flexibility are important research topics receiving growing attention. However, the academic literature needs empirical studies on SC resilience capable of investigating the inter-organizational components of flexibility along different tiers. Therefore, this paper analyzes the main lack of flexibilities in three Brazilian automotive SCs that limit their resilience and therefore their capacity to better support and meet the demand changes in the marketplace. A multi-tier case s… Show more

“…Interestingly, among the research citing our 2010 paper, the countries involved (origin of authors or application site) span the entire world, from industrialized nations to the newly advanced economies of BRIC-Brazil, Russia, India, and China, and even to developing countries such as Uganda, Kenya, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Pakistan. The industries chosen for application in the citing literature are also broad-ranging, including automotive (Carvalho et al 2012;Azevedo et al 2013;Scavarda et al 2015), pharmaceuticals (Zahiri et al 2017), agri-food and wine (Flint et al 2011;Stone and Rahimifard 2018), and electric power (Meerow and Baud 2012). This breadth suggests that supply chain resilience is a globally relevant construct, transcending any single industry or culture.…”
