Suppressing Stimulated Brillouin Scattering by Selective Mode Excitation in Multimode Fibers

Abstract: We experimentally demonstrate efficient suppression of stimulated Brillouin scattering in multimode fibers. By distributing the power in a number of high-order modes, the SBS threshold is three times as much as that for fundamental-mode-only excitation.
