Suppression of ferromagnetic order by Ag-doping: a neutron scattering investigation on Ce2(Pd1−x Ag x )2In (x  =  0.20, 0.50)

Abstract: The ground state magnetic behaviour of Ce(PdAg)In and Ce(PdAg)In, found in the ferromagnetic branch of CePdIn, has been investigated by neutron powder diffraction at low temperature. Ce(PdAg)In is characterized by a ferromagnetic structure with the Ce moments aligned along the c-axis and values of 0.96(2) µ . The compound retains the P4/mbm throughout the magnetic transition, although the magnetic ordering is accompanied by a significant decrease of the lattice strain along [0 0 l], suggesting a magnetostructu… Show more

“…Ce 2 Pd 2 In is a non-stoichiometric compound allowing the development of two different solid solution branches on account of different substitutional mechanisms; in the Pd-rich branch the antiferromagnetic structure is characterized by an incommensurate magnetic propagation wave vector k = (δ,0,0) whereas in the Ce-rich branch a ferromagnetic order is observed; in both cases magnetic moments are aligned parallel to the c axis [12]. As Pd is progressively substituted by Ag, the pristine ferromagnetic ordering is suppressed; for Ce 2 (Pd 0.5 Ag 0.5 ) 2 In a different ferromagnetic arrangement is observed, with magnetic moments aligned along the b axis [25].…”
