Suppression of transport spin-polarization of surface states with emergence of ferromagnetism in Mn-doped Bi2Se3

Abstract: The surface states of topological insulators (TI) are protected by time reversal symmetry and they display intrinsic spin helicity where the momentum of the charge carriers decides their spin states. As a consequence, a current injected through the surface states becomes spin polarized and this transport spin-polarization leads to a proportionate suppression of Andreev reflection in superconductor/TI junctions. Here we show that upon doping BiSe with Mn, the transport spin-polarization is seen to be monotonica… Show more

“…In this paper, we report on the measurement of transport spin polarization in Co 3 Sn 2 S 2 by spin-resolved point contact Andreev reflection (PCAR) spectroscopy [9][10][11][12][13][14]. Our * goutam@iisermohali.ac.in measurements show that, contrary to the expectation within band-structure calculations, the transport spin polarization in Co 3 Sn 2 S 2 is ∼50%, not 100%.…”

“…For most Mn doped TIs, the planar magnetoresistance (MR) signal exhibits the magnetic nature, of charge carriers with the evolution into weak localization behavior and hysteresis in a magnetic field along the easy axis below T C [42,45,65,67] . The presence of AHE usually implicates the ferromagnetism in a system.…”

“…This leads to a suppression of Andreev reflection in spin-polarized junctions. A measurement of the suppression of Andreev reflection gives an estimate of the spin polarization at the Fermi surface [2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10]. The problem gains additional complexity when the spin-polarized electrode forming the junction with a superconductor hosts significant electron correlations.…”
